Tupper Lake is located in Franklin County, the heart of the Adirondack Park. This village of over 4500 residents was first settled about 1856. The expansive forests that cradle the village are a haven for all sorts of sportsmen, and have fed an enduring logging industry, which is celebrated each year by the annual Tupper Lake Woodsmen's Days, the largest event of its kind in northern New York. Another popular event is the annual Tupper Lake Tin Man Triathlon which is sure to challenge any athlete. The community, surrounded by sparkling clean water, has immediate access to 30 contiguous miles of waterways on Big Tupper Lake, Lake Simond, Racquette River and Racquette Pond. These, plus many ponds, lakes and streams in the surrounding area, provide fishing, swimming, and boating activities (maps) for all. A municipal beach, parks and picnic area, boat launching sites, scenic 18-hole golf course, camping and hiking areas, cross country ski and snowmobile trails provide facilities for year round recreation. Other popular activities include horse back riding , biking , ice skating , snowshoeing and hunting. The village also offers many cozy and affordable inns and motels, a fine selection of family restaurants, and a variety of shops.
